The USDA noted that in 2019, 10.5% of households in the Unites States lack access to enough food at some point during the year. An estimated 14.8% of U.S. households with children under the age of 18 experienced food insecurity in 2020. About 42 million people, including 13 million children experienced food insecurity in 2021 due to Covid 19. Food insecurity means not having enough food to eat to support an active and healthful life. Food insecurity for Black, Indigenous and people of color is increasing and so is the risk of Cardiovascular disease. When we look at minority adults and food security, kidney disease risk, diabetes, and related co-morbidities, we can estimate the association between gender, race, and food insecurity.
